FACE STABBER | OH SEES
9.12.19 You don’t come across many new records like this. Face Stabber is quite a stew of many way past sounds from artists that few emulate these days on released albums. Stabber pays homage to the psychedelic past with what seems to me a blend of krautrock, Allman Brothers, early 70s Deep Purple, Zappa, and King Crimson - then mixes in a little late 80s Primal Scream sounds at times. A couple of fuzz rock short power tracks are peppered in the mix. Overlong and overindulgence tracks “Scutum & Scorpius” and “Henchlock” do carry on too long but can be trans-inducing if that’s your bag baby. Oh Sees release from last year Smote Reverser is an easier more concise listen that sounds more Deep Purple-ish.
Ed Cunningham writes: There are few bands as notoriously prolific as cult garage-psych legends Oh Sees (née Thee Oh Sees, temporarily OCS). . .
